These Terms govern your use of the Bakala mobile app and bakala.vercel.app (together, “Bakala”, “we”, “us”). By browsing, reserving a bag, listing a shop, or joining the waitlist, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Bakala.
Bakala is a discovery and reservation platform. We connect shoppers with independent local shops, bakeries, and cold stores in Bahrain that have surplus food to sell at a discount. Bakala is not the seller of any food or product listed, is not a food business, and does not process, prepare, or handle any item you reserve. Each shop is solely responsible for what it lists and sells.
Surplus bags are near their best-before date but never past their use-by/safety date at the time of listing — you must acknowledge this before every reservation. Beyond that acknowledgment, Bakala makes no warranty about the quality, safety, freshness, or fitness of any item — that responsibility sits with the listing shop, which is required to comply with Bahrain’s food safety and labelling regulations (including those of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs & Agriculture and the Ministry of Health). Use your own judgment when collecting and consuming any item, and raise any food-safety concern directly with the shop first. If a shop appears to be violating food safety law, please also report it to us so we can review the listing.
Allergens. Bakala has no visibility into what is in a bag or how it was prepared, and does not provide ingredient, allergen, or nutritional information. Surprise and mixed bags in particular can contain any ingredient, including nuts, gluten, dairy, egg, sesame, soy, fish and shellfish. If you or anyone you are buying for has an allergy or dietary restriction, ask the shop directly before you reserve and again at pickup, and do not consume anything you are unsure about. Bakala is not responsible for any allergic reaction or dietary issue arising from food collected through the app; the shop is responsible for accurately answering allergen questions about what it sells.
If you set a nickname, it — along with your total savings and bags rescued — is shown publicly to other users. Don’t use a nickname that’s offensive, impersonates someone else, or contains personal information you wouldn’t want public. We may remove a nickname that violates this without notice.
Don’t use Bakala to make reservations you don’t intend to collect, to scrape or bulk-extract listings, to misrepresent a shop or reservation, or to attempt to circumvent the anonymous-device reservation system to abuse the platform. We may suspend access for accounts or devices that do this.
Bakala is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by Bahrain law, Bakala is not liable for any loss arising from a shop’s products, conduct, a missed or cancelled reservation, or your reliance on information shown in the app or on this site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under Bahrain law.
We may update these Terms as Bakala changes (for example, once real shopper accounts or a merchant commission launch). Material changes will be noted in-app or on this site with an updated date above.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bahrain.
